This is an interesting question, Honey is a debated topic in the vegan/vegetarian communities.
Ultimately, Manuka Honey is an animal product so we don't make any claims to be vegan. We do however, believe strongly in the use of ethically and sustainably sourced honey, we don't test on animals and we involve ourselves and our customers in programs/causes that help the global honeybee population.
UMF stands for Unique Manuka Factor which is an industry measurement for the effectiveness of Manuka Honey.
Sometimes Manuka Honey is rated by another term, MGO (methylglyoxal). Both measurements are useful indicators of the strength of Manuka Honey but UMF takes into account more factors that determine the overall quality of the Honey UMF measurements take this into account and also takes into account two other factors DHA (dihydroxyacetone) and Leptosperin.

As for breastfeeding and with babies, it's safe to use for their skin however, it is not recommended to allow babies under 12 months old to consume honey.
If using on areas that they are likely to suck on (their hands, nipples whilst breastfeeding) please rub in thoroughly and in the case of breastfeed allow 4 hours before feeding after applying.
